The US invasion of Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Maduro were flagrant violations of the UN Charter and international law.

They involved the use of force, which is prohibited by the UN Charter.

The US attack cannot be justified by self-defense as referred to in Article 51 of the UN Charter, because the US was not subjected to an armed attack or threat of such an attack.

The UN Secretary-General has expressed his deep concern and stated that the attack violated international law.

The Charter of the United Nations is the international legal treaty that established the said world organization and that agreed on the purposes, principles and institutions of the UN.

All members must settle their international disputes by peaceful means in such a way that international peace and security and justice are not endangered (Article 2, paragraph 3 of the Charter).

After all, it is not surprising that the Trump administration has demanded that the International Criminal Court (ICC) amend its charter so that investigations will never be opened into the actions of Trump and his close circle.

What will probably happen next: President Trump is threatening Colombia with a military operation. He has also announced that he wants the rights to Venezuela’s oil reserves and repeated his threat to annex Greenland to the United States.

The question is: How long will the European Union pander to the US and submit to the humiliation inflicted by the US?

According to the New York Times, at least 80 people were killed in the US strikes on Venezuela. Quite a feather in the cap for the president who is thirsty for the Nobel Peace Prize, a man who has elevated himself to the sheriff of the world and whom the NATO Secretary General has called “daddy.”
