I spoke with Father Dave Smith, an Australian Anglican Priest, Professional Boxer, and advocate for justice, especially in Palestine and Syria.
We discussed the persecution of the former Grand Mufti of Syria—Dr. Ahmad Badr Al-Din Hassoun—by the terrorist regime occupying Syria. Mufti Hassoun was arrested in March 2025, at Damascus Airport, and has been tortured in prison since. Some days ago, a Jolani regime show trial sentenced Sheikh Hassoun to life imprisonment.
Father Dave met Mufti Hassoun in 2013, and continued to meet with him for numerous years. I met Mufti Hassoun in 2014 and in subsequent meetings over the years, as well as interviewing him in 2018.
We discuss our mutual reflections of the incredible, loving, spirit of this man of peace, Sheikh Hassoun, and our wish that he will be released to freedom and the dignity he deserves.
